Privacy Policy

1. The Short Version

FindEnergyRates is a consumer-advocacy service. We do not sell your personal information. We collect only what we need to run the site and provide the services you ask for (like rate monitoring), and any payment relationship for your energy is between you and your supplier — we never collect payment card information.

2. What We Collect

• Information you give us: when you create an account or use our services, we may collect your name, email address, ZIP code, utility, current rate and contract details, and — if you choose to upload one — a copy of your energy bill.
• Information collected automatically: standard web analytics (pages visited, device/browser type, approximate location from IP) via cookies and similar technologies.

Our data service and plan links. When an AI assistant or developer tool queries our rate data service (findenergyrates.com/mcp), we log technical details of each request. These are the IP address, user agent, requesting application where it identifies itself, an anonymized user or conversation identifier when the assistant platform provides one, the tool used, and a prefix of any API key. We also keep routine operational details of each request, such as the time, the endpoint called, the response status, the response size, and how long it took. These are used to run and secure the service. We do not receive your name, email, or the content of your conversation with the assistant.

When you click a plan link from our site or data service, we record the plan, state, time, and where the link came from (our website, a developer key, or an AI assistant). We use these records to understand which tools people use and to track referrals to suppliers. We may share aggregate counts with suppliers, such as clicks to their plans in a utility territory. These counts never identify you.

3. How We Use It

• To provide the services you request: comparing plans for your area, monitoring your rate and contract end date, and alerting you when a better plan appears.
• To operate, secure, and improve the site.
• To measure our marketing (see Section 5).

We do not use your information to charge you anything — FindEnergyRates never collects or processes consumer payment information.

4. Bill Uploads

Bill uploads serve two distinct, limited purposes:

• Residential: uploading a bill is a free, entirely optional service that helps you understand your own usage, rate, and contract details. Whether to upload is purely your choice — the comparison and monitoring features work without it. Residential bills are used solely to provide you that information and your monitoring service, and for no other purpose.
• Commercial (Texas): for our Texas brokerage service, a copy of your bill is used to generate supplier quotes — most suppliers require a recent bill to quote commercial rates. Commercial bills are used solely for that quoting process.

Bill processing may use a third-party AI service to read the document. In both cases, bills are used only for the purpose you uploaded them for — never for marketing, profiling, or sale — and are retained only as long as needed to provide that service. You can request deletion of an uploaded bill at any time (Section 8).

5. Third-Party Services

We use a small number of service providers to run FindEnergyRates:

• Hosting and database infrastructure to store account and service data.
• Analytics and advertising measurement (Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion tracking) to understand site usage and measure our marketing. These services use cookies and may process your IP address and browsing behavior on our site under their own privacy policies. You can limit ad personalization through your Google settings and browser controls.
• Document processing (for bill uploads, as described in Section 4).

These providers process data on our behalf to deliver our services. We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

6. When We Share Information

• With the service providers above, to operate the site.
• If you use our Texas brokerage or enrollment-assistance services, with the supplier involved, as needed to complete the action you requested.
• If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of FindEnergyRates or others.

That's the list. No data sales, no third-party marketing lists.

7. Cookies

We use cookies for site functionality (like keeping you signed in) and for the analytics/advertising measurement described above. You can control cookies through your browser settings; the site's core comparison features work without accepting non-essential cookies.

8. Your Choices and Rights

• Access or deletion: email us at info@findenergyrates.com to request a copy of your information or ask us to delete your account and data.
• Alerts: you can stop monitoring alerts at any time via the unsubscribe link or your account settings.
• Depending on your state of residence, you may have additional rights under state privacy law; we will honor verified requests as those laws require.

9. Data Retention and Security

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services, then delete or de-identify it. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your data; no internet service can guarantee perfect security.

We keep data-service request logs for 90 days and plan-link click records for 24 months, after which we delete or aggregate them.

10. Children

FindEnergyRates is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time; the "Last updated" date reflects the current version. Material changes affecting how we use your information will be communicated to account holders.
