Oncor Delivery Charges Explained: What You Are Really Paying

If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area or surrounding North Texas communities, Oncor is your Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP). Every electricity bill you receive includes Oncor delivery charges regardless of which retail electric provider (REP) you have chosen.

Oncor delivery charges are made up of several components. The distribution energy charge is typically around 3.5 cents per kilowatt-hour consumed. There is also a fixed monthly customer charge of approximately $3.42, which you pay whether you use electricity or not. Additional line items may include a transmission charge, a nuclear decommissioning fee, and a competitive transition charge.

To find these charges on your bill, look for a section labeled TDU Delivery Charges or Oncor Delivery. Your REP is required to itemize these fees separately from their own supply charges.

Understanding Oncor charges helps you accurately compare electricity plans. A plan advertising a very low energy rate may still carry high effective costs once Oncor delivery fees are factored in. Always calculate your all-in rate before switching.
